I don’t really look up to many Indian celebrities mainly because I don’t watch bollywood movies but that being said, one person I truly admire is Freida Pinto. She started out as an ordinary girl from Mumbai , India and then quickly shot to stardom with the release of Danny Boyle’s critically acclaimed Slumdog Millionaire. Every since that she has been landing great roles in many movies in Hollywood and I really applaud the fact that she has chosen to do independent movies more so than mainstream ones. I also admire the fact that she doesn’t package herself as an “Indian” person, she is first and foremost and actor and ethnicity comes second. Even the roles she takes on in her movies have very little to do with her ethnicity and I think that deserves an encore, from my end at least. Hollywood is notorious for type casting anyone who is not “white” in stereotypical roles I mean look at Raj from The Big Bang Theory, he is such a laughable stereotype that it puts me off from the show. So I for one look to her for inspiration considering I have long since struggled with fitting in because of my ethnicity and skin color and Freida serves as a reminder that anything is possible if you work for it regardless if people reject you because of your ethnicity.
“This industry is for fighters and those who do not give up. It is very important to believe in yourself. Even when a hundred people rejected me, I did not lose hope.
“I have decided to stop thinking that my complexion or accent isn’t good enough. I have decided to be happy with what I have. I’m proud of myself. I like the way I’m made.”
